WSIU, SIU Summer Children's Film Series Continues

Next Screening is Friday, July 12 at Marion Carnegie Library

Carbondale, Ill. -- Reporters, photographers, and camera crews are invited to cover free screenings of award-winning Prix Jeunesse International children's films at regional libraries this summer. The films are being shown as part of the summer library reading program, “Have Book, Will Travel”. The SIU College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, WSIU Public Broadcasting, the SIU Global Media Research Center, and the SIU Center for International Education are presenting the films in conjunction with regional libraries.

The next film screening will be held this Friday, July 12 from 1-2:30pm at the Marion Carnegie Library in Marion, Illinois.

Films to be featured are aimed at children ages 11+ and include Chick, Chick from Kenya Television Network, Nairobi, Kenya; The Border from First National Channel KTR, Kyrgizia; and Picture This from the South African Broadcasting Corporation, South Africa.

Dafna Lemish of Israel, Interim Dean of the SIU College of Mass Communication & Media Arts, and SIU international student Fatumo Guyo of Kenya will meet and interact with children and parents at the screening, courtesy of the SIU Center for International Education. Special book titles representing countries featured in the films also will be available to families.
