“Limited Partnership” ” – Precedent-setting Fight for Marriage and Immigration Equality

Carbondale, Ill. -- Reporters, camera crews, and photographers are invited to cover a free screening and discussion of the PBS Independent Lens film, Limited Partnership, on Saturday, May 2 at 2:30pm at the Carbondale Public Library, 405 West Main.

WSIU Public Broadcasting and the Carbondale Public Library are presenting the film as part of WSIU's participation in Community Cinema, a community engagement initiative from the Independent Television Service (ITVS) and Independent Lens designed to ignite conversations about key issues and to inspire real and lasting change.

Katherine Bryant Graves, Pastor at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Carbondale, IL and Paulette Curkin, LGBTQ Activist, and Retired Coordinator, SIU LGBTQ Resource Center, Carbondale, IL will moderate an in-depth discussion after the film.

Limited Partnership tells the story of one gay couple who fell in love and took on the U.S. government to fight for marriage and immigration equality. Over four decades of legal challenges, Richard and Tony figured out how to maintain their sense of humor, justice, and whenever possible, their privacy. This tenacious story of love, marriage, and immigration equality is as precedent-setting as it is little-known – until now.

This will complete WSIU’s 2014-15 Community Cinema season. Find out more at http://www.wsiu.org/community-cinema.

Questions should be directed to Kate West, Community Cinema Coordinator and WSIU Graduate Assistant, SIU Carbondale College of Mass Communications and Media Arts, at (618) 453-5060 or kate.west@wsiu.org.
