U-S Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri says a new survey of the top colleges and universities in the country will help shape bipartisan legislation addressing on-campus sexual assaults.
The Missouri Democrat calls it "disturbing" that 41 percent of the responding institutions said they have not carried out any sexual assault investigations in five years.
"Which means they are saying there has been zero incidents of sexual assault on their campuses. That is hard to believe and obviously very problematic."
McCaskill is also troubled by the number of schools where students adjudicate sexual assault cases and those that allow athletic departments to oversee cases involving athletes.
McCaskill says legislation is expected in late August or early September.
