Carbondale Mayor Joel Fritzler wants the city to contribute $100,000 toward a planned Aquatics Center.
The City Council has already ear-marked $10,000 to help the Carbondale Park District raise the funds necessary to meet the match required for the federal grant the district received. The Super Splash Park would include water slides, a lazy river, and a competition swimming pool. The project is planned for the Super Block on the city's east side. Fritzler says he would like to see the city dedicate an additional $90,000 to the project from city funds dedicated to tourism. The Park District has a capital campaign underway in an effort to raise around $900,000 in local funding.
