May Unemployment Rates Down in Southern Illinois

Unemployment rates were down across southern Illinois in May when compared to May 2018.

Statistics from the Illinois Department of Employment Security show the largest decline of 2.7 percent occurred in Pulaski County, where the jobless rate fell from eight percent in 2018 to 5.3 percent last month.
The Carbondale - Marion market area experienced its lowest unemployment rate on record for the month of May at 3.6 percent, down from 4.4 percent in May 2018.

The lowest unemployment rate belongs to Hamilton County at an even three percent. The highest rate is in Hardin County at six percent.

According to Help Wanted OnLine data, southern Illinois employers advertised for 31-hundred jobs in May and about 72-percent were full-time.
