January 31 is Marion Mayor Bob Butler's last day in office.
The 90-year-old - who has served as the Williamson County's town mayor since 1963 - announced his decision to step down on December 1st. He is one of the longest serving mayors in U.S. history.
In the written statement announcing his decision, Butler said his hearing has deteriorated to the point where he can't perform the job as he would want.
By state statute, the city's finance commissioner - Anthony Rinella - becomes the mayor pro tem. He will be sworn into office February 1 and will complete the mayor's term of office.
