A Marion man has been convicted of multiple charges and awaits sentencing.
The Jackson County State's Attorney says a jury convicted 27-year-old Devin Brooks of Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, Defacing Identification Marks of a Firearm, Aggravated Battery and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
The jury concluded Brooks entered a convenience store on East Walnut Street in Carbondale in January and battered a customer. A Carbondale Police officer saw Brooks running out of the store and began a foot pursuit, ordering him to stop running. Because he continued to run, he was charged with obstructing justice. He eventually gave up and was taken into custody.
Other officers retraced the route taken by Brooks and found a Ruger 9mm pistol with the serial number removed and a live cartridge.
A sentencing date has not yet been set.
