A Carbondale man with an extensive criminal history has been sentenced for Unlawful Use of Weapons.

The Jackson County State's Attorney says 34-year-old Joseph Clopton received a four-year prison sentence after pleading guilty.
Last July, Carbondale Police officers were called to a local residence for a domestic situation. Officers knew Clopton lived there from prior calls. When they arrived, officers found a woman in the doorway yelling at a person inside. Officers noticed injuries to her head and face. The woman told the officers Clopton battered her and threatened her with a gun.

Officers found Clopton in a back bedroom with a .40 caliber handgun under the mattress. His previous felony convictions prohibited him from possessing guns.
