An Illinois State Police Trooper from Benton is being recognized for his work during a shootout with a suspect earlier this year.
The Illinois Fraternal Order of Police awarded Sergeant Jonathan Edwards with its Life Saving Award during its meeting last week.
Edwards was assisting with the manhunt for Dracy "Clint" Pendleton back in May when he heard an FBI SWAT officer was hurt.
The FOP says Edwards went into the danger zone where shooting continued to help the FBI agent - applying a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding.
FOP leaders say Edwards' actions saved the agent's life - and set an example for law enforcement everywhere to follow.
