Local Groups Raise Awareness to Support Black-Owned Businesses on july 7th, 2020.

Some local advocacy groups are hoping to raise awareness of racism by participating in a Blackout Tuesday event, on Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Carbondale.

Nancy Maxwell says it's a part of a national movement for people to support black-owned business.

"There has been proposed a boycott, for July 7th to not buy, unless it's with Black Business Owners." Says Maxwell.

She adds that the recent demonstrations calling for an end to police brutality have been helpful, but, she says, more needs to be done.

"Clearly, marching is not gonna be enough, if you go back to the 60s where the bus was boycotted..very sucessfully."  Nancy Maxwell.

People can also register to vote, at the event.
