A variety of southern Illinois stakeholders have formed a new community development non-profit, to fight economic hardship in far southern Illinois. The new group is called One Shawnee and President, State Representative Patrick Windhorst says this new partnership will work from the bottom up.
"So what we're going to do over the next several months is conduct a community survey and we're also going to have some focus groups. And then when that is completed we're going to sit down with different individuals and institutions in this region and look at visioning for the entire region."
Windhorst added the people who have lived in far southern Illinois will have the best ideas on how to move the area forward.
