Know Your Status With STD Testing Event

Rainbow Cafe
The testing is open to anyone in the community.

Southern Illinois residents will be able to get free HIV testing this Saturday.

Rainbow Café and Community Action Place are offering tests for several sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, at the Know Your Status event. Rainbow Café manager Benton Goff said the testing is especially important since many people have found it difficult to access health care during the pandemic. Among sexually active people, 1 in 2 will contract an STD or STI by the age of 25.

“Generally speaking, they don’t know because generally speaking they don’t show symptoms. So the issue is that you need to get tested because otherwise you might not know, but you still can transmit it,” Goff said.

Testing will be offered on Saturday, April 10 from noon to 4 pm at the Rainbow Café building.
