Jobs and Unemployment Rates Up Across Illinois

Images

Jobs were up in eight of the state's 14 metro areas last month.

While the unemployment rate rose slightly in 12 metro areas compared to year ago levels... Illinois Department of Employment Security spokesperson Sam Salustro says jobs were added in places like the Carbondale-Marion area.
"More people are gaining confidence in the economy as job growth takes hold across the local areas. We've actually seen this confidence show up in an increase in the unemployment rate as these people re-enter the labor market and re-enter the workforce."

The Carbondale-Marion area may be an example of this, where 1,700 jobs were added, yet the unemployment rate increased from 4.9 percent in March 2018 to 5.1 percent in March of this year.

The biggest over the year job losses in March were in Bloomington, Champaign-Urbana and Springfield.
