The union that represents full-time tenured faculty at John A. Logan College is publicly backing three candidates in the upcoming Board of Trustees election.
The Logan Illinois Education Association is supporting Becky Borgsmiller, Mandy Little and Glenn Poshard.
The union's Perry Knop says these three are focused on ways to preserve education at John A. Logan, rather than laying off faculty to save money. He says a trustees vote a year ago to lay off 55 people to save four million dollars has been a tough pill to swallow.
"It's really hard to do the things that we were doing before with such a drop in full-time faculty."
Knop says these three candidates are attractive because they don't want to micromanage the school's operations.
"The board at John A. College has, over at least the last several years, taken a much more day to day interest in the operations out here at the college. It'd be nice to have a board that let the president and the administration make more of those decisions."
Other candidates in the race include William Orril and Bob Ellis.
Incumbents Don Brewer and Jaclyn Hancock decided not to seek re-election.
The election is April 4th.
