Jackson Co. Board Helps Fund Carbondale Splash Park

Sign

The Jackson County Board is contributing to the completion of the Super Splash Park Outdoor Aquatics Center in Carbondale.

Thursday night, board members approved making a 30-thousand dollar contribution.
Carbondale Park District executive director Kathy Renfro says they have raised 75-thousand of the 300-thousand dollars necessary to complete the water park.

"I do think the pace is going well. People are getting excited again, these warmer days are reminding people that summer's right around the corner. We're very pleased by the response of the southern Illinois residents to get behind us and get this project completed."

Renfro says fundraising activities will continue to help raise more of their goal. She says right now people can show their support for the Super Splash Park during the "Glow Blue" campaign in which people are encouraged to purchase a blue light bulb to be used on April 1st, or in this case, April "Pool's" Day.

Renfro says the plan is for the water park to open on Memorial Day weekend.
