It's Flood Safety Awareness Week and the Illinois Emergency Management Agency is reminding about some steps you can take to protect your home.
As spring rolls around, I-EMA says it's important to prepare your home for potential flooding. Spokesperson Rebecca Clark says that includes making sure you have flood insurance.
Clark says standard homeowner's insurance often doesn't cover flood damage, and that it takes 30 days for a flood policy to go into effect.
