The media got to officially meet the incoming director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute this morning, Monday December 18th, 2017. . John Shaw, is a native of Peoria who has written five books, and has spent 25 years covering Congress as a journalist. Shaw says he is looking forward to continuing the Institute's work in bringing nationally known experts to Carbondale. In addition, he would like to see future partnerships with other congressional research institutes. In the future, Shaw would also like to create a Paul Simon Statesmanship Initiative to educate, promote and honor that quality he most admired in the Late Senator. He praised the Institute's predecessors, including Interim Director Jak Tichenor. Shaw will begin his duties as Director of the Institute on the first day of the Spring semester, January 16th, 2018.
