People in southern Illinois have had another bracket to fill out recently in addition to the one associated with the NCAA Basketball Tournament.
ILLINOISouth Tourism held its own bracket-style challenge to determine the favorite event in its 22-county area, which ranges from the Metro East to the Indiana border, as far north as Clark County and south to Perry and Hamilton Counties.

Communications director Andy Waterman says the winner of the 26-event bracket is Christmas in Carlyle.

"Christmas in Carlyle is one of the best light displays I have ever seen and I've been to a lot. I've been to the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, I've been to the DuQuoin holiday lights and I've been to several others."

In the final round, Christmas in Carlyle beat out Pioneer City Rodeo in Crawford County.

Waterman says the 26 events were selected in a blind draw from more than 50 entrants. The contest attracted over 15,000 votes.
