Illinois Utilities Extend Shutoff Moratorium

Some Illinois utilities have agreed to extend their moratorium on disconnections.

This announcement comes from the Illinois Commerce Commission.

 

The COVID utility relief agreement will also provide additional consumer protections and deferred payment agreements. 

 

Several companies, including Nicor Gas and Illinois American Water, have agreed to not disconnect customers until Sept. 30th. Others, including Ameren Illinois and ComEd will extend through Sept. 10th.Audio version

The Chairman of the Illinois Commerce Commission encourages residents to call their utility providers to set up a deferred payment plan, which could be used after the moratorium is lifted.
