Illinois Secretary of State Office Still Operating Online

Even though all Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Services facilities remain closed right now due to the COVID-19 pandemic, officials say drivers will still have plenty of time to take care of any transactions once the office re-open.
Secretary of State spokesperson Beth Kaufman says their office has extended expiration dates for driver’s licenses, identification cards, vehicle registrations, other transactions and document filings for at least 90 days after the governor's executive order is lifted.

"The 90 days would kick-in after our facilities open. Right now, we're in the process of getting that plan of re-opening. Once those facilities re-open, then that plan will go into effect."

She says the office is handling regular business online right now...just make sure to have all the required information.

"If you are renewing your vehicle sticker, you're going to need the registration card that most people keep in their glove compartment. It has your PIN number on there and you'll need that, your ID and your PIN to be able to renew online."

The Illinois Secretary of State's website is cyberdriveillinois.com.
