Illinois Preparing Plan to Distribute COVID Antibody Treatments

One of the experimental drugs that President Trump received while he was battling COVID-19 has been approved for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration.

The drug, made by Regeneron, is the second antibody treatment to win emergency use approval from the FDA.
Illinois Department of Public Health director Dr. Ngozi Ezike says teams are working now to determine how best to distribute them to the appropriate candidates.

"This is for high risk individuals, older individuals, people with comorbid conditions that would potentially have a worse course. So, this infusion is to be given before, early in the infection, to help prevent any hospitalization."

Ezike says the state has about 8,500 doses of one of the treatments so far with more hopefully on the way.
