Illinois Logs 2,450 New COVID-19 Cases (May 2)

The state's total number of infections tops 58,500, and the death toll is more than 2,500.On Saturday, IDPH Director Dr. Ngoze Ezike announced 2,450 new cases of COVID-19, including 105 additional deaths.

Ezike says infections have now been logged in 97 of the state's 102 counties. Illinois remains under a stay-at-home order through May 30.

LOCAL UPDATES:

Jackson County recorded 15 new cases of COVID-19. One of those cases is in another state, the others are home in isolation. Jackson County's total positive cases reached 135 on Saturday, with 45 being released from isolation.

In Jefferson County, three deaths were reported from COVID-19. One more positive case was also identified. In total, Jefferson County has logged 88 positive cases, including 14 deaths. Forty-seven people have been released from isolation, and 562 negative tests have been recorded.

Perry County reported five new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total positive cases in that county to 29. The county health department reports 280 people have tested negative so far.

Williamson County announced one new case of COVID-19, a woman in her 30s who likely contracted the disease in a healthcare setting.
