Illinois Leaders Report New COVID-19 Cases, Deaths (May 8)

Illinois Public Health Director Doctor Ngoze Ezike announced 2,887 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, with an additional 130 deaths.

The state's total confirmed cases now stands at 76,760, with 3,241 total deaths.

LOCAL CASE UPDATE:

Effingham County Health Department:

  • No new cases reported
  • Eight overall positive cases of COVID-19, with four recoveries and one death.

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department:

  • One new case is reported - a man in his 50s from Williamson County.
  • Total COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 44, with 30 recoveries and one death in Williamson County, 10 cases with eight recoveries in Franklin County.

Jackson County Health Department:

  • Four new cases of COVID-19 are reported in Jackson County. Patients include a woman in her 30s, two men in their 20s, and one man in his 30s.
  • Jackson County's total positive test count is now 162, with 86 recoveries and ten deaths.

Jefferson County Public Health Department:

  • One new postive case is reported, a woman in her 50s.
  • Overall there have been 91 positive cases of COVID-19, with 71 recoveries and 14 deaths.

Perry County Health Department:

  • No new cases reported
  • Overall, 36 positive cases of COVID-19, with five recoveries.

Randolph County Health Department:

  • Overall, 220 positive cases of COVID-19, with 122 recoveries and two deaths.

Richland County Public Health Department:

  • No new cases reported
  • Overall, three positive cases of COVID-19, with three recoveries.

Southern Seven Health Department:

  • Four new cases are reported in the Southern Seven region: Two men in their 30s from Pulaski County, and a teen girl and man in his 60s from Union County.
  • Overall, Southern Seven reports 103 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 38 recoveries and one death.
