The Illinois House Sunday adopted a resolution mourning the death of longtime SIU and high school basketball coach Rich Herrin.
It was sponsored by State Representative Dave Severin, who says playing for Herrin at Benton High School was life-changing.
"As far as watching him lead a team and teach us the things that were life skills, not just how to score two points or how to hold someone from scoring. He was a tremendous individual and he will be missed dearly."
Herrin went straight from Benton High School to leading the SIU men's basketball program in 1985. He died late Christmas Day at the age of 87.
