The Illinois House approved a measure Thursday that prohibits fees for freezing your credit.
The best way to protect yourself from the massive Equifax data breach that affected more than five point six million people in Illinois is to request a credit freeze. The problem is, that can cost up to 10 dollars per credit agency.
This bill, backed by Representative Peter Breen of Lombard, prohibits charges for freezing and unfreezing your credit.
The bill received unanimous support in the House and now moves to the Senate for a vote.
