Illinois Economy Still Impacted by COVID-19 Pandemic

The number of non-farm jobs decreased over-the-year in all fourteen Illinois metropolitan areas in August, according to preliminary data released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
The number of non-farm jobs decreased by 2,700 in the Carbondale-Marion metro area. The largest payroll declines occurred in Leisure and Hospitality as well as Manufacturing.

The unemployment rate in the Carbondale-Marion metro area for August stood at 8.5 percent. Pulaski County had the highest unemployment rate at 11.1 percent. Hamilton County owned the lowest at 5.9 percent.
