Illinois Confirms 2,294 New COVID-19 Cases, 59 Deaths (May 18)

Illinois leaders say they're launching new technological resources to trace COVID-19 cases and contacts, as the state logs another 2,294 cases of the novel coronavirus. Illinois now has had 96,485 positive test results.

Another 59 deaths were also reported, bringing the state's death toll to 4,234.

LOCAL CASE UPDATES (5:15pm Update)

Effingham County Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Six overall positive cases of COVID-19, with three recoveries and one death.
  • 346 tests have been administered.

Egyptian Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Total COVID-19 positive cases stands at 10, with 9 recoveries.
  • 726 tests have been administered in the three-county service area.

Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Total COVID-19 positive cases now stands at 53, with 36 recoveries and one death in Williamson County, 11 cases with eight recoveries in Franklin County.

Jackson County Health Department:

  • One new case - a man in his 20s.
  • Jackson County's total positive test count is 184, with 145 recoveries and ten deaths.
  • One previous case was updated after it was found the patient did not live in Jackson County.

Jefferson County Public Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Overall there have been 102 positive cases of COVID-19, with 85 recoveries and 14 deaths.
  • 1,077 tests have been administered.

Marion County Health Department

  • One new case - a man in his 50s who is isolating at home.
  • Overall, there have been 49 positive cases of COVID-19, with 35 recoveries.

Perry County Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Overall, 39 positive cases of COVID-19, with 32 recoveries.
  • 525 tests have been administered.

Randolph County Health Department:

  • Two new cases reported.
  • 53 active cases, with 49 isolating at home and four hospitalized 
  • Overall, 245 positive cases of COVID-19, with 189 recoveries and three deaths.
  • 1,329 tests have been administered.

Richland County Public Health Department:

  • No new cases reported.
  • Overall, three positive cases of COVID-19, with three recoveries.
  • 696 tests have been administered.

Southern Seven Health Department:

  • Ten new cases reported: a woman in her 50s from Alexander County; two men in their 40s from Pulaski County; two boys under five, two teen girls, one man in his 20s, one woman in her 50s, one woman in her 60s, and one woman in her 70s, all from Union County.
  • Overall, Southern Seven reports 182 total confirmed COVID-19 cases, with 63 recoveries and four deaths.
