IL Sen President Wants On-Line Gambling

fellowgamblers.com

Illinois would become a worldwide hub for online gambling if the president of the Illinois Senate has his way.

President John Cullerton says he wants Illinois to hurry and authorize online poker and other Internet gaming before the federal government forbids the state from doing so.  Cullerton says he envisions Illinois having the website up and running within a year's time.  He says it'd allow the state to capture hundreds of millions of dollars, as online gamblers who use offshore sites could instead use Illinois'.

Anti-gambling advocate Anita Bedell says it's disturbing that Cullerton's trying to rush the measure through with only a couple of weeks left in Illinois’ legislative session:  "It's a terrible way to raise revenue, you're addicting people and then you're taking their money. What you're doing is, you're making gambling accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, anywhere in the world."
