Southern Illinois State Representative Terri Bryant offered a resolution on the House floor Tuesday to honor Mike Mills, the barbecue champion and owner of 17th Street bar and Grill.
The 79-year-old died December 29 from non-COVID related health issues.
Mills was a three-time grand champion at Memphis in May’s World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the so-called Super Bowl of Swine.
He's the co-author of two books, Peace, Love, and Barbecue and Praise the Lard: Recipes and Revelations from a Legendary Life in Barbecue.
Mills was inducted into the Barbecue Hall of Fame in 2010.
