IL House Considers Tanning Bed Age Restrictions

Illinois lawmakers are considering legislation prohibiting teens from using indoor tanning beds.Currently teenagers 14 through 17 can tan with their parent's permission. A bill sponsored by State Representative Robyn Gabel of Evanston would change that regardless of whether a parent  say it's ok. The bill would prohibit anyone under the age of 18 from using an indoor tanning beg.

Liz Brown is with the Illinois Indoor Tanning Association. She says whether or not a child tans is a parent's decision not the government's.  Brown says under the proposal teens would still be allowed to enter tanning salons and would be allowed to receive spray-on tans.

The measure has passed a House committee and will be debated next before the full House.  The legislation is HB1666.
