The Illinois Department of Transportation's Listening Tour rolled into Carbondale Tuesday.
IDOT's Deputy Secretary Christine Reed led the discussion on the state's infrastructure needs and priorities with members of the community.
Reed says IDOT's budget will be cut, so these sessions will help the agency prioritize its needs.
Some of the local officials on hand talked about the need for Carbondale to have a multi-modal center.
SIU's Economic and Regional Development Director Kyle Harfst says having one central location for transit would benefit the region and be a terrific resource and recruiting tool for the university.
Everyone at the session agreed a more stable source of funding would make long-range transportation planning much more reliable and feasible.
