Harrisburg – A rumored move of nearly 100 jobs from Springfield to southern Illinois will move one step closer to reality today, as Governor Rod Blagojevich announces the Illinois Department of Transportation's Traffic Safety Division will relocate to Harrisburg.
State Representative Brandon Phelps, who represents the Saline County community, told the State Journal-Register in Springfield of the announcement yesterday. He says an abandoned Wal-Mart building will house the office.
The move has caused an uproar among employees in Springfield as well as with lawmakers. The proposal would still have to be approved by the state's Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability.
