A recent study from Washington State University showed an alarming amount of prison workers -- 19% -- suffered from diagnosable PTSD. A rate equal to veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan  and a higher rate of PTSD than police officers.

The Illinois Department of Corrections has implemented a Staff Wellness Program to help its employees deal with the stress and trauma of the job. WSIU's Brad Palmer talks about the program with Stephanie Rawlings, IDOC's Statewide Staff Wellness Coordinator.

As a news producer and news anchor on All Things Considered, Brad provides the listeners with a recap of the day's top local and state news as well as breaking news at any given time. Contact WSIU Radio at 618-453-6101 or email wsiunews@wsiu.org
