Southern Illinois Healthcare is notifying more than 600 patients who might be impacted by a breach of their information.

SIH Privacy Officer Marcia Matthias says it was an isolated incident involving the misdirection of data to other HIPPA-governed medical facilities by a third party vendor.
SIH has a business relationship with Experian Health, which verifies insurance eligibility during the patient registration process. On April 28, Experian Health notified SIH of a technical error caused by a server migration project, which resulted in the delivery of certain patient insurance information to incorrect medical facilities between February 13 and March 13.

The misdirected data may have included names; addresses; Medicare numbers or Member ID numbers for non-Medicare patients. Experian Health says it took immediate action to identify the cause and correct the error.

SIH mailed notice of the incident to affected patients and posted notice on its websites, sih.net and sihmedicalgroup.net.

SIH is also offering free credit repair and monitoring services to those potentially impacted.

Anyone who receives a notice in the mail can call toll-free at 855-259-6436 for assistance.
