House Republicans Want Governor Pritzker To Call Special Session For Ethics Reform

Representative Terri Bryant and other House Republicans want the Governor call a special session to address ethics reform.

Federal investigators subpoenaed Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan's office for documents relating to hiring recommendations for political allies.

Madigan was implicated in an ongoing investigation into ComEd and their lobbying practices last week.

Now, GOP members of the Illinois house - including Representative Terri Bryant - are calling on Madigan to resign if the allegations are true.

Bryant says the next session starts November 17th, after the election, but she thinks the people of Illinois shouldn’t have to wait that long.

“Not only are we calling for a special session on the issue of corruption, but we need to at the very least be having hearings to explain what’s going on in IDES and I want some explanation for these people that being paroled and who’s sentences are being commuted right now.”

Madigan says he’s cooperating with the investigation. ComEd agreed to pay a $200 million fine as part of deferred prosecution agreement for one count of bribery.
