Holiday Road Patrols

Motorists should expect to see beefed up police patrols on the roads over the Memorial Day weekend.
State and local police are staging roadside safety checks and seatbelt enforcement zones through the holiday. IDOT secretary Ann Schneider says they are aiming for an accident-free weekend.  Police are placing the biggest focus on the overnight hours when people are less likely to buckle up and more likely to drink and drive.
Illinois' safety belt usage rate currently stands at 92.9 percent.
