High Wind Shuts Down Cave-in-Rock Ferry

IDOT

Kentucky transportation officials say the Cave-in-Rock ferry and the Dorena-Hickman ferry have been closed due to high winds.

The Cave-in-Rock ferry carries vehicles over the Ohio River between Illinois Route 1 in Hardin County and Kentucky 91 in Crittenden County.  The Dorena-Hickman ferry carries vehicles over the Mississippi River between Kentucky 1354 in Hickman and Missouri Route A and Route 77 near Dorena.

Capt. Ed Floyd says there are sustained winds of about 30 mph and gusts of up to 40 mph. He says he expects the closure to remain in effect on Thursday and said it could extend into Friday.  The ferry is the only direct route between the states.   A statement from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says it is expected to remain closed until Friday morning.
