Springfield, IL – A new campaign was launched in Illinois and across the United States today.
Health care advocates say the goal is to pressure John McCain and Barack Obama ... as well as Congress ... into creating a national health care plan.
The coalition known as "Health Care for American Now" isn't advocating any one specific program. But William McNary ... an activist from Illinois ... says a "must" is that it not rely solely on private insurance companies.
McNary says tax cuts such as those proposed by McCain won't do. And while Obama has a proposal that may fit the bill ... McNary says the coalition won't be making any political endorsements. Still, the group plans to spend millions on advertising before the November election.
Some of that money's been fronted by groups leading the effort ... including the AFSCME and SEIU unions ... MoveOn.org ...and Planned Parenthood.
