Harrisburg parks are open, but facilities remain closed from the stay at home order.

Harrisburg Park District Executive Director Blake Emery says ball leagues and the opening of the city pool can’t happen at least until the end of May

Like many communities, Harrisburg waits for the Illinois Department of Public Health to issue guidelines to conduct activities safely.

“We’re kind of taking a wait and see approach and it’s not looking good, but we would like to get these kids something to do if it’s safe.”

Emery says once clarity comes from the state, the district will be quick to open.

“We think within a week’s time frame we could get it up and running if needed.”
Without the guidelines from the state, Emery says they can’t because safety is the top priority.
