Harrisburg Doctor Accused of Murder Faces New Charges

People
Saline Co. Sheriff's Office
Brian Burns

A Harrisburg doctor accused of murdering his estranged wife is now charged with plotting to kidnap the Saline County State's Attorney.

Saline County prosecutor Mike Henshaw filed the new charges Wednesday against Brian Burns.  Burns is charged with solicitation, conspiracy to commit aggravated kidnapping, and attempted aggravated kidnapping. Henshaw says Burns is accused of trying to arrange the kidnapping with an undercover police detective.

Henshaw says Burn's bail has been set at 10-million dollars. Henshaw says the new charges are separate from the murder case and he anticipates the two cases will be tried separately.  Henshaw also says he has not decided yet if a special prosecutor will be appointed.

Saline County authorities charged Dr. Brian Burns in March with first-degree murder related to the death of his estranged wife, Carla.   Burns is accused of shooting his wife and then burning her body in an attempt to conceal the homicide.  A jury trial on the murder charges is scheduled for March of 2017 in Saline County.
