Ground Beef Recalled

The Illinois Department of Agriculture says a Coles County food company is recalling ground beef that was not inspected.

Morgan's Meat Market in Mattoon is recalling about 216 pounds of ground beef products that did not undergo inspections required by state and federal regulations. That means they're considered unfit for human consumption.

Officials say the products also were not produced using mandatory procedures aimed at eliminating risks from biological, chemical and physical hazards.

The department says the problems were discovered during an investigation that is continuing. The agency said it's received no reports of illness, but anyone who believes they contracted a food-borne illness should seek medical care.

Recalled products were sold at one retail location in Effingham, and have the number EST. 516 inside the Illinois Mark of Inspection.
