Retired Teamsters worker Howie Hawkins, Green Party Presidential Candidate made a stop in Carbondale on Thursday, June 6th, 2019.  WSIU Radio was there.

With the Presidential election a year and a half away, Green Party Candidate Howie Hawkins stopped in Carbondale this morning (Thursday) to outline his plan for the country, which includes an ambitious Green New Deal.  Hawkins said his New Deal would see the U–S economy convert to 100 percent clean renewable energy, with zero greenhouse gas emissions,  by the year 2030.

His Green  New Deal would help those workers,  in the fossil fuel sector who would be displaced , by providing for five years of guaranteed income and benefits as they make the transition.

Hawkins, a former Marine,  also said he would like to increase the country's machining and tooling industry, in order to make the equipment needed for his Green New Deal.  According to Hawkins he said if we want wind generators and solar panels, they have to imported from Germany or China.

The Green Candidate also would call for a 75 percent cut in military spending.
