Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has used his veto powers to amend a billthat would have allowed both student members of SIU's Board of trustees to have full voting authority.
In his veto message the Governor says the change is not necessary or advisable.
Rauner says the long-term views of professionals must be given appropriate weight.
He says the current make-up allows for the students' perspective to be heard without diluting the insight gained from the other trustees' years of professional experience.
