A fundraising campaign is underway for the support staff in the Murphysboro School District.
Organizers of the Go Fund Me page say these hourly paid workers, including administrative assistants, classroom aides, paraprofessionals and monitors, are going without paychecks during the ongoing teacher's strike in Murphysboro. They say some of the workers are paid minimum wage or barely above.
Organizers say all money raised will be split evenly among the approximately 70 Murphysboro School District's hourly employees who are currently unable to work during the strike.
The goal is to raise $7,000.
