Williamson County State's Attorney Chuck Garnati delivered more than $23,000 to help abused and neglected children Wednesday and he says he's proud to have helped make days brighter for children across southern Illinois.
Garnati converted his annual campaign fundraiser to a benefit for the Williamson County Child Advocacy Center and Court Appointed Special Advocates 13 years ago. He says he did it on principle, and would do it again:
"I wanted to make the point: we have to help our abused children, and also the second point: money is not everything for politicians."
Garnati's golf day has raised more than $300,000 for CASA and the Advocacy Center over the past 13 years.
Garnati says 31 teams played in the tournament this year, and though it wasn't a record-breaking year, the money will help programs for children. Next year's golf day is already set - it's June 10 at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Energy.
