The franklin county board is one step closer to their new courthouse.

Wednesday the board interviewed three architect firms to design and build the new courthouse.

County Board Chairman Randall Crocker says they discussed credentials, concepts and the procedure for tearing down the old courthouse and constructing a new one.

“A lot of it is kind of the size of it and a lot of it is kind of how they would go about the whole process and they presented their experience and like I say how they would approach this project.”

Once the board decides which architect to hire the next step is moving all the offices across the street to the Campbell building after its renovated.

Crocker says drivers shouldn’t have any trouble passing through the square during the tear down and construction phases.

“We feel like that by relocating those offices over there and cut down the parking that’s necessary now, that the traffic and the construction will all work together just fine.”

The county plans to move all the offices out of the courthouse by the end of the year.

The New court house is projected to be open in the Spring of 2021.
