State Senator Dale Fowler says he's lending his voice to the call for more help at the troubled Alexander County Housing Authority.
The Harrisburg Republican recently brought his caucus leader - GOP State Senator Christine Radogno to Cairo, to show her the need and also the opportunity there.
Fowler says he'd like to get a visit from U.S. Housing Secretary Ben Carson, too - to talk about what can be done to improve conditions.
"You know, we don't necessarily need to talk about what's happened in the past - because that's in the past. But what we can do is talk about what we can do in the future for the housing and the residents there. As far as the state level, and myself being a State Senator, being a strong voice is the top thing we can do."
Fowler says Cairo is a prime location for economic development because of its location on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers.
He says he's working with private companies to land a potential barge terminal, as well as other business, in Alexander County.
