A former Southern Illinois University employee will spend six months behind bars, and four years probation, after pleading guilty to stealing more than $30,000 from the school.
Kathy Howerton's sentencing last month also includes the requirement that she pay back the money she stole, and undergo psychological testing.
Howerton was accused of stealing the money while she worked at SIU's Student Health Center.
A state audit found the missing funds last year, but university leaders said at the time they'd already discovered the problem and ended Howerton's employment.
