Two former SIU hammer throwers seem to be making the chase for the American record a personal competition.
Six days after DeAnna Price set the record, Saluki Hall of Famer Gwen Berry reclaimed her record with an opening throw at a meet in Poland Friday.
Berry threw 77.78 meters on her first attempt to take back her American hammer throw record. Price broke Berry's previous record last Saturday with her toss of 77.65 meters at the Iron Wood Throws Classic in Idaho.
The world record hammer throw is 82.98 meters by Poland's Anita Wlodarcyzk.
