Sign

A southern Illinois woman has pleaded guilty to stealing nearly $71,000 from the village of Crainville.
The Illinois Attorney General's office says 64-year-old Linda Harvill was sentenced today in Williamson County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to one count of theft over $10,000 and one count of official misconduct. Harvill was sentenced to four year's probation and ordered to pay over $70,000 in restitution.

According to Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Harvill stole $70,726 of Crainville village funds from January 2010 through June 2012 when she served as the office manager of the village's water department, handling billing and collections for customer water, sewer and garbage services.

Harvill also was responsible for the collection of building permit fees, city ordinance violations and other general fund receipts.

She worked for the village for 24 years before being placed on administrative leave in July 2012. Harvill resigned in August 2012.
